Zanadu is a sanctuary and an organic shade coffee farm filled with the Spirit of Hawaii

Located on an ancient Hawaiian Kipuka, Zanadu is a place like no other. A Kipuka is a special part of land that volcano's goddess Pele chooses to omit while spilling lava over the Hawaiian Islands. Our Kipuka has been left untouched by the lava's flow for over 3,000 years, gracing us with native forest, a futile jungle that has become a home for many travelers, human and animal alike.
Among the beautiful trees we grow world's best Ka'u  shade coffee. Our production is organic, picked by hand and cared for in the most natural way from every tree to every sealed bag. Zanadu relies on trade, woofing and the power of destiny to care for the land, the produce, the animals and the sacred Hawaiian magic.

Birthed and built by an artist, animal lover and craft collector of the name Zan, this wonderful sanctuary was established in 1994 to be a place of spiritual enlightenment, connection with Mother Nature and fun, where fertile minds can learn from the fertile land, developing their fertile spirit.

Zan's love for coffee inspired her to grow boutique kind of shade coffee, in a unique way, in tune with the rhythm of Mother Nature. Zanadu coffee trees grow among native Hawaiian forest, tall and majestic, their place dictated by the space in the raw, virgin island jungle. The region of Ka'u on the Big Island, is known to produce the best coffee in the world due to it's special environment and volcanic soil.
Zanadu is a 5 acre jungle and farm providing a space of refuge for many rescued animals, housing cats, dogs, and many birds including 7 stunning parrots. The animals are looked after by the Zanadu community of keen, creative individuals who come from all over the world to share time and energy, learning new life skills from farming  to business development.
